China is divided into 23 provinces, five autonomous regions, four municipal districts under the direct jurisdiction of the Central Government, and one special administrative region. The 23 provinces are Anhui, Fujian, Gansu, Guangdong, Guizhou, Hainan Heilongjiang, Hebei, Henan, Hubei, Hunan, Jiangsu, Jiangxi, Jilin, Liaoning, Qinghai, Shaanxi, Shandong, Shanxi, Sichuan, Yunnan, and Zhejiang The five autonomous regions are Guangxi, Inner Mongolia, Ningxia, Tibet, Xinjiang. Land Transportation:

The main land entry ports in China Include Ernhot, Manzhouli, Ji'an, Hunchun, Tumen, Xunke, Mohe, Suifenhe, Friendship Pass, Pingxiang, Wanding, Ruili, Nyalam (Zhangmu), Yadong, Baketu, Alataw, and Kunjirap.

Railways:
Railways in China have developed rapidly, and many new domestic and international lines have been opened. The domestic lines include quasi-express trains, express trains, tourist trains, special expresses, and through expresses.

The qusi-expresses include the Guangzhou-Kowloon Expresses and the Guangzhou-Shenzhen Expresses; Express trains take off at night and return in the morning, running between large cities. Tourist trains serve the main tourist cities, offering convenient transportation for travellers in China. Railroad coaches in China have two upper berths and two lower berths in each private room.

The international railway expresses shuttle between Beijing, Ulan, Bator, and Moscow, and Beijing, Manzhouli, and Moscow; Beijing and Pyongyang; Ueumqi and Alma Ata; Beijing and Hanoi; and Beijing and Ulan Bator.

It takes six to seven days from Moscow to Ulan Bator and from Manzhouli to Beijing

Passports and identifications are required for passengers from Hong Kong and Macau. Payment is based on Hong Kong currency and paid in RMB in China.

Highways:
The highways in China have over 1.5 million kilometers. They include more than 70 national highways and more than 1,600 provincial highways. Great efforts are being made to construct more expressways and Class 1 and Class 2 highways for motor traffic. The following expressways and Class 1 and Class 2 highways are convenient for tourists: Shenyang-Dalian, Beijing-Tanggu, Nanjing-Shanghai, Shanghai-Hangzhou, Hangzhou-Ningbo, Xi'an-Lintong, Xi'an-Baoji, Guiyang-Huangguoshu, Beijing-Shijiazhuang, Taiyuan-Shijiazhuang, Yichang-Huangshi, Jinan-Qingdao, Guangzhou-Shenzhen, Guangzhou-Fushan, Chengdu-Chongqing, Fuzhou-Xiamen, Hainan Island Ring Road, Guilin-Liuzhou, Guangzhou-Shantou, and Luoyang-Kaifeng.

The expressway transportation is user friendly, of high quality, high speed. The coaches for this transport are comfortable and well-equipped. The average speed is 100 km/hr.

City Transportation:
Taxi Service- Taxicabs of varying types are available in large and medium-size cities. A ride cost a couple of yuans per kilometer.

Subways- The are two main subway line in Beijing. They are the East-West Line, running between Xidan and Pingguoyuan; and the Ring Line, along the second Ring Road. The Shanghai No.1 Subway Line runs between Jinjiang Garden and New Shanghai Railway Station.

Bicycles- In many tourist cities such as Beijing, bicycles can be rented in hotels. There are also tricycles services for rent.

Water Transportation:

The main water entry ports in China include Tianjin, Qinhuangdao, Dailian, Dandong, Shanghai, Lianyungang, Zhenjiang, Nanjing, Yaangzhou, Ningbo, Jiujiang, Weihai, Qingdao, Yantai, Hankou, Guangzhou, Huangpu, Shantou, Shenzhen, Zhanjiang, Beihai, Haikou, and Sanya.

China has a vast sea area with the Bohai sea, the Yellow Sea, and the East China Sea on the meeting the Pacific Ocean in the east; and the South China Sea in the south. China's longest coastline has ports in Shanghai, Tianjin, Guangzhou, Yantai, Qingdao, Qinhuangdao, Dalian, Beihai, and Hong Kong. These ports are vast and deep with beautiful surroundings, making them also attractions for sightseeing in China.

International Ocean Lines
A regular weekly line of the Sino-Japanese International Ferry Company runs between Shanghai and the japanese cities of Kobe, Osaka, and Yokohama. A one-way trip takes about 45 hours.

The Yanjing Luxury Liner of the Jinshen Ship Company shuttles between Tianjin and Kobe once a week.

The Daren passenger and cargo liner of the Dalian Daren Ship Company runs between Dailian and Inchon in South Korea twice a week. A one-way trip takes about 15 hours.

Every week there are three regular trips between Weihai and Qingdao and Ichon by the luxury liners New Golden Bridge and Xiang-xuelan. A one-way trip takes roughly 14 hours.

Domestic Ocean Lines
Domestic ocean lines link all major Chinese ports. The main lines include Shanghai -Dalian, Dalian-Tianjin, Dalian-Yantai, Shanghai-Qingdao, Shanghai- Guangzhou, Beihai- Guangzhou, Shenzhen-Zhuhai, and Zhuhai-Hong Kong.

Inland River Routes
China's mainland is crisscrossed by 226,800 kilometers of rivers, of which, 136,000 kilometers are navigated. The main routes on inland rivers include.
